The Other Half Of The Record

Higher Prices. Higher Taxes. High Cost Hines.

Jane Fonda's plan to end fossil fuels. Bernie Sanders' plan for government-run health care. Christina Hines signed on to both. Here is what they would cost a Macomb County family.

The Agenda

“She's Leading Them.”

That is how a progressive outlet described Christina Hines in November 2025 — not following the political winds, leading them. It meant it as a compliment. She is, in their words, “the only candidate in Michigan's 10th openly backing Medicare for All.”

Ten months later she announced she was “thrilled” to accept the endorsement of Jane Fonda Climate PAC, a group organized to “end the stranglehold the fossil fuel industry has on our political system and our planet.”

Two positions. One price tag. Macomb County pays it.

She Took Jane Fonda's Endorsement. Michigan Auto Workers Would Pay For It.

Endorsed

On September 26, 2026, Christina Hines posted an “ENDORSEMENT ALERT” — she was “thrilled to have the support of Jane Fonda Climate PAC,” with a photo of herself beside Fonda. The PAC exists, in its own words, to elect candidates who will “end the stranglehold the fossil fuel industry has on our political system and our planet.”

Ending fossil fuels means ending the gas-powered car. In Michigan, that is not an abstraction. An independent analysis of a gas-powered vehicle ban found Michigan would lose about 37,000 auto manufacturing jobs — the worst losses of any state in America. Roughly 14,000 of those jobs are in final assembly. Another 23,000 are in the parts plants that line the 10th District.

The bill does not stop at the plant gate. Families would pay an estimated $12,000 more as the gas-powered car is forced off the market — and watch utility bills climb as reliable power is pushed offline to meet the agenda she signed on to.

Christina Hines did not stumble into this. She announced it with an alert and an exclamation point.

“Michigan is projected to experience the worst job losses, with about 37,000 jobs lost.”

The Only Candidate In The 10th District Backing Government-Run Health Care. Even Bernie Sanders Admits The Price.

$30–40 Trillion

Christina Hines “isn't waiting for the political winds to change, she's leading them. She's the only candidate in Michigan's 10th openly backing Medicare for All.” That is not an attack. It is how her supporters describe her.

In her own words to the same outlet, expanding the Affordable Care Act and lowering the Medicare age are only the start — “Medicare for All as the ultimate goal.”

The goal has a price. The Mercatus Center at George Mason University put the ten-year cost of Medicare for All at $32.6 trillion, and concluded that “doubling all federal individual and corporate income taxes going forward would be insufficient to fully finance the plan.” Independent estimates of the Sanders plan ran from $24.7 trillion to $34.7 trillion over a decade.

The plan's own author did not argue. Asked what Medicare for All would cost, Bernie Sanders said: “Somewhere between $30 and $40 trillion over a 10 year period.”

What does a family in Sterling Heights or Shelby Township get for $40 trillion? The end of private health insurance — including the employer and union-negotiated plans that autoworkers and skilled trades spent decades bargaining for — replaced by a single government program, and the taxes to pay for it.

“Doubling all federal individual and corporate income taxes going forward would be insufficient to fully finance the plan.”

Jane Fonda's energy agenda and Bernie Sanders' health care plan were not forced on Christina Hines. She chose them, announced them, and is asking Macomb County to send her to Congress to deliver them. Read her own words, and decide who pays.
